The Jewish Learning Center (JLC) and Beth El Youth Programs

What makes the JLC GREAT?

Community, Community, Community: Each classroom is a kehillah (community) of Jewish learners asking questions in a safe space, learning to be proud Jews, and doing mitzvot (sacred commandments/good deeds).

Experienced Teachers: Most of our teachers have between 6 and 20 years of teaching experience and bring a wide range of expertise to the classroom. Our teachers care!

Experiential, Multi-sensory Learning: Teachers use a wide range of teaching methods to engage students on every level from Jewish history improvs and videos, to Hebrew language acquisition through games, art and small group learning, to creating Torah diagrams, debating and chevrutah (paired) study. Our students take the lead in deciding on and participating in many social action projects. In the words of Abraham Joshua Heschel. “I felt my legs were praying”. Our JLC students are engaged in active learning while receiving a fun, fulfilling, engaging Jewish education.

The Jewish Learning Center (K-7) is…

…a Center for Empowering Pride in Jewish Identity

…a Center for Multi-Sensory, Active Learning

…a Center for Enthusiastic Engagement in Mitzvot

…a Center for Family Connections

…a Center for Experiential Jewish Education

…a Center for Caring Kehillah (Community)

…a Center for Living Judaism

The Jewish Learning Center Includes:

-- Sunday Morning Learning (Gr. K–6) and Wednesday Afternoon Learning (Gr. 3-6)

-- NEW IN 2017-2018! Gesher Program - a unique experience exclusively for our Grade 7 students in their b'nai mitzvah year (Tuesday afternoon learning and one Sunday each month). Gesher means "bridge" and we believe that during your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah year they will be creating their own “bridge” bringing them into a more adult understanding of their place within the congregation, the Jewish community, and the world. Our Gesher Program meets on Tuesdays from 3:45 pm – 6:00 pm plus one Sunday afternoon a month for an enrichment activity. There will be many opportunities for field trips, Shabbatonim, special guest speakers and taking part in various service projects. All students are also required to complete 15 hours of service within our community and also in New Jersey, United States, Israel and the world.
