Jewish Learning Center

The Jewish Learning Center of Beth El (JLC) serves children from kindergarten through high school and their families. The overall goal of the JLC is to create a caring, nurturing environment where students can explore and actively participate in Jewish life.

Programs cultivate Jewish identity and literacy through text study, music, art, drama and dance. Students engage in active, experiential learning that also has practical application to their lives. Key facets include the choice of 'electives' for grades Gimmel (3rd) and up, innovative Bar/Bat Mitzvah and teen programs, and incorporating mitzvot into the context of study. Our weekly tefillah/prayer sessions and God talk lessons enable our students to articulate their understanding of God, make personal connections to our liturgy and be able to lead prayer. Families have the opportunity to learn together through multi-generational learning programs.

The Jewish Learning Center is at the heart of a comprehensive program of life-long learning at Beth El. Sherri Morris, a graduate of the William Davidson School of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary, is the Director of Congregational Learning leading this program with Rabbi Francine Roston and a very talented, nurturing and highly qualified group of educators and specialists who bring Judaism to life. Morris was previously a teacher and high school principal at several New Jersey synagogue religious schools.

The Jewish Learning Center is open to the community welcoming and non-members who would like to get to know our congregation and education programs. For more information or to hear more about our innovative, dynamic program, please email Sherri Morris, Director of Congregational Learning or call her at 973.763.0119.
